. . . A Memoir
for His Grandchildren . . .
Touching the Moon throws
light on some of the people, industries, and practices responsible
for putting two men on the moon and bringing them back safely to
earth with he whole world watching on television. Director of
Reliability and Special Assistant to the Vice President, Lunar
Module (LM) at Grumman Aerospace, builders of the LM, the spaceship
that carried the astronauts to the moon and back, Dr. Coutinho wrote
this book as a record and legacy for his five grandchildren.
His memoir begins in Washington, D.C. in the early 1920s and marches
through Hitler's rise to power and concludes with the crowing glory
of his career with the moon walk. Along the way, the world undergoes
a vast array of changes in technology, attitudes, and mores. His
account gives us much to remember and think about.
